Brief

When you first start thinking about mods for your bike, changing the look of the seats it probably low on the list. After all, what's a seat other than something to hold our bum. Other than comfort, what could you possibly think of changing on an already fully functional part? To tell you the truth, I never once thought about changing out my seats until I saw what Luimoto had to offer.

Overview

Luimoto has much to offer to those looking for that little something to set their bike apart from the rest. With seats ranging from all sorts of colors and fabrics, it would be hard not to find something to fit your bike. Their carbon-look fabrics are designed to match the carbon accents of your bike. The fabric also adds a little more grip that was missing for me with the stock seats. I wasn't looking to modify the seat for comfort, as I was already satisfied with the way the seat supported my, uh, you know... so a seat skin was something I was most definitely interested in checking out.

Details

I was pleased to find that Luimoto offers a special front and rear seat for my newly acquired Repsol Edition 1000RR. When the new skins arrived, they came with all sorts of instructions on how to install them yourself. They even have a great video on the site. I was planning on trying to mount the skins myself, but I ran into problems. Not with the product, but with the items needed to install. I seem to have misplace my staple gun and all the ones my friends had to offer, just didn't have the power to punch through the tough plastic of the seat pan. I didn't want to buy a new staple gun as the one I have is pretty nice (for a staple gun), so I decide to just take it into a local guy and have him do it for me.

So, one day and $40 later I was ready to get these things on the bike to see how they look. When I got the stock skins off, I was surprised to find how thin they were. The Luimoto skins are much thicker and the design matched perfectly to the bike. I had purchased a set of used seats that I found on eBay so I would be able to easily takes some comparison shots.

I love how these skins followed the lines and colors of the bike's paint scheme. I was at first a somewhat worried about the skins being a little to flashy, but after finally seeing them on the bike, I quickly feel in love with the look. I really like the way the rear seat skin completes the bike. The Repsol text on the front of the rear seat, really looks sweet. I also love how the Repsol logo is positioned right above the Repsol text on the rear deck.

These seats look great together and although I also have a match hard real seat cowl for the bike, I seem to prefer the look of both seats together rather than just the front seat and rear cowl.

I'm still playing around with the configuration, but for now both seats adorn the bike. I enjoy the added grip that the seats provide over the slippery stock skins. Sure, these specific skins will look best on a Repsol Replica, but Luimoto offers many more intriguing designs to fit most late model sportbikes.

I am completely satisfied with the fit, finish and craftsmanship of these seat skins. Luimoto has great communication via the web, and are very quick to answer questions. I highly recommend Luimoto for both their product quality and customer service. We are proud to add Luimoto to our preferred vendors list.

Update

Did I mention that they also do awesome custom work? Rob has always liked the look of a solo tail for the 996, but didn't want to alienate the wife from also enjoying the bike. We asked the gang at Luimoto what they could do about that. We made a few measurements and sent them the seats to play around with. The results were more than we could have hoped for and I think you'll agree that their workmanship and attention to detail is second to none.

Well, what do you think? We couldn't be more satisfied with the final results. Thanks again to Luimoto, we're able to give Bonk's beautiful 996 just a bit more individuality.
