Brief

Vortex Racing has been making parts for race teams for years and it was only a matter of time until their products spilled over into the streetbike market. Their billet aluminum gas caps are great for the track; I hadn't heard how they performed on the street. When I saw what Vortex had to offer I was very eager to replace the boring stock cap and put their product to the test.

Overview

Sure, I know what you're thinking; changing the gas cap would be the last thing on your list to change… Well, sometimes changing something simple really makes a big statement. In the ongoing effort to differentiate your pride and joy from the next guy (or gal) down the street, it is sometimes the little details that make all of the difference. Vortex Racing has built a reputation on producing high quality parts. Their products are setting a new standard and this line of Billet Gas Caps is a testament to the pride this company takes in their craftsmanship.

Details

Available for all makes and models, this easily installed accessory comes in four different colors; red, blue, black and natural silver. The caps and bases can be mixed and match to create an even more personalized statement. An important consideration is that there is no key used to secure this cap. This was not a problem for me since my bike is garaged and rarely out of my site for long when out for a day's ride.

The caps are easily installed and only took me a few minutes on my 98RR. A few screws out, and a few screws back in. The caps are screwed in normally but if you're anal like me, you may find that lining them up with the tank might be difficult. On a few occasions the cap was secured so tight that I had a hard time trying to remove it to fill up. I blame this on my desire to try to line the darn thing up and tightening it up too tight myself. I have heard from one other person that had trouble with leaks when the tank is full, but I have found no such problem.. If you're looking for a subtle change that won't hurt your pocket book too much, the Vortex Racing Aluminum Gas Cap may be just what you're looking for.
